Purging the Pantry

Day 2

Relieved  that I don’t have to decide about breakfast this morning, I get in the car and drive up to my boyfriend’s place.

On my way I passed Shelburne Falls Coffee and with the memory of the taste of their yummy chai, I nearly pulled over until I remembered… Oh yeah, I’m not spending money on food.  Near slip up number 1 on Day 2.  Others included thinking about hitting up the fish market, grabbing a crusty loaf of bread from Hungry Ghost, and picking up the ingredients to make goat cheese at home.  I wonder when I’ll start thinking about what’s at home first and of stopping at a store second.

Breakfast ended up being some delicious pancakes and then I headed out to the gym for Restorative Yoga class.  Meredyth is a phenomenal instructor and her peace enticing class always starts my Sunday off just right.

Back home to lunch where I made polenta which was the super star of both lunch and dinner.  Who knew it was so easy to make!?  AND the package is no longer staring at me each time I open the cupboard.

I hadn’t used the polenta before in part because it had intimidated me a little since I had never cooked it on my own and part because I was saving it for a special occasion.

Polenta is yummy! I was thinking today of all the various and sundry things that this could work for. For example, just in my life: all the supplements, vitamins, powders, potions and superfoods that are crammed into my cabinet. What if I started methodically using them to see if I become super human? (or at least which ones work well with my metabolism!)

And another twist: books. They are for READING. Not STORING. or ADMIRING. Or LENDING. READING. Read the books before buying any new ones. A novel concept. (I did NOT do that on purpose, my alter-ego did).

PS I have the recipe for Shelburne Falls Coffee chai. Anytime you want it, you probably even have all the ingredients right now.

Great idea for a blog. I have a related theory: best way to organize your life starting with a single act is to start in any closet–pantry as you’re doing (food), medicine (as in unused cold medicine, expired prescriptions, etc) coat (as in Wow, time to drop off clothes at the thrift store), and on and on. By doing closet first, you free up room for the next level of junk, what I call “ambient.” Good luck w/ proj.
